Reading Notes: Week 2
Yay! We are getting started on our reading assignments.
Reading the overview of the assignment and knowing that the point was to “read
like a writer” was kind of intimidating because I am not naturally a good
writer by any means. In Part A of this assignment, one of the units I enjoyed
reading was the Japanese mythology unit. Seeing the story of Susanoo, the
Japanese storm God was really neat because I mentioned that this was the type
of stories I would like to continue to read. The following are notes on the
stories I liked the most.
·
The God of seas and storms, Susanoo is the main
character of the story and his opponent is an eight-forked serpent named
Orochi.
·
I enjoy the amount of detail that goes into
describing things like physical features, and smaller things as well
·
Using words that are sophisticated but still
easy to read adds to the overall theme/aesthetic of this story
·
Aesop’s fables are always fascinating and I
never get tired of them!
·
Overall, these fables are able to tell a whole
story without being super long. A good story teller has that ability! I’ll try
to remember that when writing, length doesn’t necessarily add anything to the
story besides making it longer.
·
The lessons that come from these fables are easy
to understand because of the way it is set up and delivered throughout the
story. Be clear and concise.
·
I think that most people who read like to read
fairy tales, at least I know I do.
·
There are many variations of the same popular
stories. Recreations + putting your own spin on it happens a lot throughout
history. Even the Disney fairytales are slightly altered.
·
The story of The Three Roses included multiple characters
but you never get mixed up on who is who.
·
You can hear the tone through the text which
adds to the story.
