Topic Brainstorm

Image
The first topic I think I'd like to look at is Fairy Tale Princesses . This was a topic that interested me because these types of stories surround your childhood and many people are familiar with these. The previous knowledge that I have on these stories is just from what I remember hearing as a child. These stories are just not from Disney as many people associate them with. I think it would be fun to re write a fairy tale princess in the modern age or even within University of Oklahoma. The second topic I thought was interesting was Greek Mythology . I took a class based on Greek Mythology so my knowledge about these stories isn't vast but we looked at a lot of them. I like the way that they usually have twists in them or they are just huge tragedies. The story about a Greek Game Story was entertaining to read and in the author's note he said that it was the hardest story for him to write because of how many questions he had to come up with but I think he did a good jo

Feedback Thoughts

I’ve noticed that whenever it comes to feedback, it is really easy to feel as if it is criticism. I think it is easy to confuse the two. Whenever you are the person who is giving the feedback, you want to make sure that it is constructive feedback and doesn’t sound like you are saying negative things to or about something that person did. The good thing about receiving feedback is that whenever you hear something from an outside person, they can provide a different perspective than one that you have. In the Why It’s So Hard to Hear Negative Feedback article, it explains that a lot of people are reluctant to want to hear negative feedback but only because most people are bad at delivering feedback. The article states that we should deliver feedback openly and honestly but we should also receive feedback the same way. The article from Tiny Buddha stated: “Instead of brooding over setbacks, you begin treating each setback as a springboard for small helpful steps, accompanied by self-co

Reading Notes: Week 2

Yay! We are getting started on our reading assignments. Reading the overview of the assignment and knowing that the point was to “read like a writer” was kind of intimidating because I am not naturally a good writer by any means. In Part A of this assignment, one of the units I enjoyed reading was the Japanese mythology unit. Seeing the story of Susanoo, the Japanese storm God was really neat because I mentioned that this was the type of stories I would like to continue to read. The following are notes on the stories I liked the most. The Devine: ·          The God of seas and storms, Susanoo is the main character of the story and his opponent is an eight-forked serpent named Orochi. ·          I enjoy the amount of detail that goes into describing things like physical features, and smaller things as well ·          Using words that are sophisticated but still easy to read adds to the overall theme/aesthetic of this story Fables: ·          Aesop’s fables are always fa

Reading Options

To be quite honest I was a little overwhelmed when looking over all of the stories. There are SO many! That is what makes it great though, you have so many options to read in this "UnTextbook"! The first unit that caught my eye was the Japanese Mythology unit. My mother is Japanese so I have heard a lot of stories growing up, but there's also so many I haven't heard of before. I enjoyed seeing that there really are so many different stories to discover.   Amaterasu (Google) Another unit I think I would like to read more about is the English Fairy Tale unit. There are multiple units on this so I don't think I could get bored reading! The Old Woman and Her Pig was a story that made we want to keep reading the other stories located in that unit. Lastly, I want to keep reading more about the Ballads of Robin Hood . We all know the cartoon Robin Hood and it intrigued me because of that!
