An introduction to Emily!

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog!

The Venetian Hotel canals in LV, Nevada

So as you can see my name is Emily and I am majoring in Economics and graduating this fall. Going into college Econ wasn't really something I thought of doing but while taking Micro and Macroeconomics for my general education Business courses, I really enjoyed learning more about economics. As for what I wan't to do with my degree: that part is still undecided. I think I am leaning towards banking or working for the treasury department but I haven't decided just quite yet.
Well now to the personal part of my introduction! Along with my mom and dad, I have one older sister named Erika who also attends OU. We (my sister and I) had a very interesting childhood where we had the privilege of moving around a lot due to my father being in the Navy. I was born in Texas (near Corpus Christi) and we lived in Japan for 8 years (non consecutively), Hawaii, and California. In my opinion, Japan was definitely the best place that we lived. Not only is it beautiful, but my mom is from there so getting to hangout with my Japanese side of my family was really nice. After 24 years my dad retired from the Navy and we moved from San Diego, CA to Choctaw, Oklahoma. I attended Sophomore-Senior year at Choctaw HS and when I graduated my parents moved to Fort Worth, TX. Fort Worth is only about two and a half hours away from Norman so I try to visit home as much as I can.
A photo of my mom and dad that I love. I think it's really awesome of my dad to embrace my mom's Japanese culture and I am thankful for the opportunity to witness different cultures in my childhood.

One of the reasons I love to go home (if my love for my parents wasn't enough) is that my dogs are there! We have two family pets: Kona, a chocolate lab & Daisy, a yellow lab. They are absolutely two of the sweetest dogs in the whole wide world and I'm not just saying that because they're mine. I love dogs so much, not only mine but all dogs in general. I wish I could adopt every dog out there that do need loving homes.
Another thing that people who know me know, is that I love music and attending concerts. This is not an exaggeration: I have been to probably over 100 concerts and I can't get enough. I have an appreciation for all types of music but my favorite genres are definitely Punk rock & rap music. Weird combo right? One of my favorite bands is Blink 182 and I have been fortunate to meet them with the most recent time I saw them was back-to-back nights in London at the O2 Arena, which was incredible! I also have absolutely no shame in saying I love boy bands as well. My favorite of all time is One Direction: I probably went to 10 of their concerts while they were together. I've also been to their separate solo concerts and got to meet Louis Tomlinson in London! Last week I got to see Niall Horan in Las Vegas during his solo tour and it was great. As you can see like I said before, I have no shame talking about this so if any of you are fellow music lovers I'd love to hear what type of music you listen to!

Okay, last thing: I love the TV show Friends. I have probably seen every episode at least 10 times. I don't get to watch much television but every night before I go to bed I watch Friends. I got to visit the set of Friends in Cardiff, Wales while they were touring the set through the UK. It was honestly one of the best experiences ever and I'll never forget it.

On the set of  Friends - they had Chandler & Joey's apartments and Monica & Rachel's apartments all set up.

They even had different outfits from the show like the Christmas armadillo suit, Ross's leather pants & Dr. Drake Ramoray's doctors coat!

That's all, I'm done. If you read all of that, you're a trooper!

Until next time- Em

  1. Hi Emily. First thing first, congratulations on your upcoming graduation. I am majoring in Finance, and also want to have a job in a banking industry also. Like you, i do have two dogs, my favorite friends, in Vietnam. Your life is very beautiful, traveling and meeting new people. I am extremely impressed with your introduction. No worries if you love music but study economic, but do whatever you like. "You are the boss of you" ^.^

  2. Hi Emily! I loved reading your introduction, and I think it is really cool that you found a major that you legitimately enjoy and are interested in. I also really enjoy all of your cool photos and experiences! In particular, it's neat as heck that you got to chill on the set of Friends! Boy bands are high-key great so definitely go off on that too!
Also, I lived in Texas for a while before moving to Choctaw and going to CMS for 6th-8th grade before going to an OKC high school. I have never been to California, Hawaii, or Japan, but I still think that coincidence is funny!
Anywho, thanks for putting so much effort into your post, it made it very enjoyable to read! Have a good weekend!

  3. Hi Emily! While reading your introduction I noticed a lot of things we have in common! My dad was in the army for 26 years and retired right here in Oklahoma! The best place we got to live was Germany, I miss it dearly! We also have two family dogs, Jake and Jasmine! That is so amazing that you got to live in Japan and connect with your mom's side of the family! I have not been to nearly as many concerts as you, but I have seen my favorite artist, Machine Gun Kelly, in concert twice and I loved every second of it!

  4. What a wonderful picture of you in Venice, Emily -- and of your parents too: that's beautiful! I visited Venice a few times when I was spending time in Italy; that is a truly incredible city. I would love to get to go to Japan someday; maybe you will want to do a Japanese project for this class (the Japanese fairy tale units in the UnTextbook are really good, and there are LOTS of other Japanese story collections online). I'm guessing banking is the kind of career that could lead to lots of international travel if you want to go the international route. And celebrity photos too: that is so cool! I've never met any of my favorite musicians in person, but sometimes musicians I follow will tweet me back at Twitter, and that is exciting ... you'll see that I include a lot of music by Maati Baani who are based in Mumbai, and we have had conversations back-and-forth at Twitter. It would be amazing to meet them in person someday!
